Hi friends! Some of you who follow me on Instagram or Snapchat (find me at AndreaBai) may have already met Chewbacca, aka Chewie. He’s the newest member of our family we adopted from the Yolo County Animal Service Shelter. So how did this happen?
For Damian’s 6th birthday he asked for donations for the animal shelter instead of presents. Be still my heart for having such an amazingly thoughtful child. Ever since then we’ve visited the shelter almost weekly to say “hi” to all of the animals.
Well, as you can imagine there are only so many times you can go to the shelter without wanting a dog. Usually, Damian wants to give all the dogs a treat and simply show love. He has always left saying he hoped the dogs found their forever family. He generally doesn’t ask to bring one home. Until Chewie.
Chewie was found on the streets of Oakland by a Davis resident. They brought him home to quickly find out a puppy doesn’t work with a full time work schedule. So off to the shelter he went. Damian is well aware of how quickly puppies are adopted and said we had to get him right then. Something about Chewie made him say “he is our dog.” I couldn’t say no!
Getting a puppy wasn’t exactly on my wish list. I originally wanted a dog in a year or two and preferably around two years old. Funny how life hits you. He’s actually a really mellow and lovable dog. Of course he gets puppy energy, but nothing I can’t handle.
We get asked what breeds he is. I’m not sure what he is mixed with. We recently took a DNA test and are currently awaiting the results. They should arrive any day now. The shelter guessed he was some sort of a cocker mix and poodle mix. No, not a cockapoo. He’s definitely mixed with other breeds. Any guesses?!
So here he is, the newest member of the family. I’m sure you will see him pop up on here and my social media accounts quite often. I figured it was only fitting if I formally introduced him to you all!
