Watching your favorite shows doesn’t have to be just entertainment. They can be ways to learn, inspire, and start difficult conversations with your children. I like to think of it sort of like reading a book – except this is something you can both experience together without reading aloud. There are certain shows that really resonate with life like Girl Meets World and others are shows we enjoy together that we can learn from.
A relatable way to start tough conversations is to watch shows you both already enjoy. Laugh, cry, build bonds, and talk. Talk about what is bothering kids. Whether it is bullying, self-esteem, honesty, or patience there is a way to start that conversation. We actually do this a lot in our house. It’s one thing when mommy or daddy says something, but when they can see what we mean in action in their favorite shows…it takes on another meaning. It adds another layer to the understanding of our conversation.
